STUDENT EVALUATORS OF PEERS ON CASE PRESENTATIONS

Since July, 1984, students have evaluated peer presentations and these evaluations have counted 25% of the presenters' grade. The purposes of this exercise is two fold: 1) to enable students to actively participate in peer evaluation and; 2) to enable students to examine the evaluation process. Students assigned to evaluate their peers wil1 use the following guidelines.

1. Peer evaluation assignments will be made at the beginning of each rotation.
2. Evaluators will be responsible for picking up assigned cases after 2:00 p.m. on the Tuesday before (or Wednesday a.m. if not assigned at CNMC), will be expected to read them, and discuss them intelligently with the preceptor after the presentations.
3. Areas to be evaluated will be included on the evaluation form: slide of presentation, case history summary, knowledge of case/disease, and case abstract. Students will not be expected to critique the references.

4. Student evaluators will assign a grade for each presenter prior to the discussion with the preceptor. Student grades will be weighted 25% as compared to 75% for the preceptor.

5. Evaluations should be given to the faculty preceptor who will return them to the Medical Education office following completion.

6. It is hoped that where differences do exist, preceptors will discuss these with the student evaluators but not the presenters.
