The Male Couples Relationships Study

Thanks to all of our participants - 110 male couples from 22 states
across the U.S., the District of Columbia and the Netherlands.
We couldn't have done it without you!
Results of the study can be viewed by clicking on the links below.

Phase I: "Gay Men in Relationships Survey"

In phase I of the study, we collected data on individual men in
relationships.  This phase gave us a basis for understanding same-sex
oriented men in close relationships and their sexual behaviors and
adjustment.  Many of the measures used in the second phase of our
study were tested in this phase.

Phase II: "Male Couples Relationships Study"

In phase II we collected information from both members of committed
gay male couples together a year or longer.  We examined relationship
features, communication, HIV risk, and sexual practices in
monogamous or sexually "closed" relationships as well as sexually
non-exclusive "open" relationships.  We hope that the results of this
study will help improve the quality of life for male couples by shedding
light on the sexual lives of gay and bisexual males as partners and
family members, providing therapists with important information about
couple sexuality and communication, reducing the likelihood of
HIV/AIDS transmission in couples, and improving the mental health of
individual men in relationships by achieving a better understanding of
male couple dynamics for the mental health provider community.
