Directions to Georgetown University Math Dept.

Aug. 28, 2006 (last update)

The Georgetown campus main gate is at 37th and O St., N.W., and the Math Dept. is in St. Mary's, about a 5 or 10 minute walk in a roughly northwestern direction. However, closer access is available from Reservoir Road. Our building faces Reservoir Road and is just west of the corner of 37th Street. The D6 bus stops at this corner. The main entrance to Georgetown University Hospital is at 38th and Reservoir Rd.

We are located on the eastern end of the 3rd floor of St. Mary's. Please call 202-687-6214 to reach the department's administrative assistant, Delores Osborne. To reach the 3rd floor, use the west-most stairway or the elevators.

Parking on campus is very expensive (hospital lots), parking on Reservoir Road is risky (you can be towed if you leave your car there during rush hour), while parking on adjacent streets is possible but time-limited to two hours (well enforced!) during weekdays. So you may wish to use the bus.

From Dupont Circle, in order of preference, the D6, D2, and G2 buses all go to campus. The D6 stops at 37th and Res. Rd., while the D2 stops at 35th and Res. Rd. and the G2 stops at the main gate. All 3 buses depart from near 20th and P St. Or take a taxi. Also there is a campus shuttle from 20th and Mass. which goes to the middle of campus. The shuttle runs every 15 min. or so during weekdays, less often on Sat. and evenings.

If you are coming from out of town: From Union Station (Amtrak), you can take the red line metro to Dupont Circle. From National Airport, you can take either the Blue or Yellow Line metro and transfer to the Red Line to get to Dupont Circle, or take the Blue Line direct to Rosslyn, where just east of the metro stop (turn left, toward DC, and walk a block or so) there is a stop for the Georgetown shuttle bus. A cab from Rosslyn to campus is about the same rate as from Dupont circle. From BWI there is a bus (B-30 about $3) to Greenbelt metro on the Green Line, which then takes you to Dupont Circle after a transfer to the Red Line. It's poorly marked at the airport (called "regional bus") and there are stops at the international and Southwest terminals. From Dulles Airport, take the 5A (leaves from near the blue van) for $2 or $3 and get off at the Rosslyn stop.

If you need to find parking, I suggest looking on the sidestreets off Reservoir Road (e.g., 38th St., 39th St. or R, S, or T).
