이 책 (“한국 언어학 논문집”)은 김영기의 광범위한 언어학 연구활동을 보이는 저서로, 음운론, 구조론, 의미론, 사회언어학 내지 언어의 변이성을 다루는 다양한 논문들이 들어있고, 모음조화, 부정문의 병연구등의 창의적인 연구는 많은 새로운 연구를 자극하는 계기가 되었다. 또 부록으로 한국인으로는 처음으로 세계의 지성, 현언어학의 거성 Noam Chomsky와의 인터뷰를 하여 원래 한국어 번역봉으로 “문학사상”에 실었던 것을 영어로 다시 바꾸어 이 책에 실었는데, 이것이 Otero라는 교수에 의해 Chomsky교수와의 대화집에 재판되었다.
