The model book of Giovannino de Grassi (active in Lombardy around 1385
- 1398) is one of the masterpieces of late Italian Gothic art. Created in
the
Visconti court, the codex contains
famous drawings of figures forming the letters of the alphabet.
Giovannino de Grassi was not only a gifted drawer but a painter, sculptor,
and architect as well. He desgined the Duomo (Cathedral) in Milan (begun
in the 1380's).
