I enjoy participating in volunteer efforts whenever I have the opportunity. In late August, 2008, I participated in the District-wide Beautification Day which is designed to “beautify” the District of Colombia’s public schools. I personally went to an elementary school in Southeast DC. This school started the day with trash lying absolutely everywhere, plants overtaking walls and fences, paint chipping off of the doors, and many other displeasing features. However, with the help of about 20 volunteers, the school seemed to sparkle by the end of the day.

In addition to volunteering when opportunity arises, I plan to become consistently involved with supporting our war veterans. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to make this plan become reality. Whether it be in a soup kitchen or just raising awareness, the USA’s veterans deserve much better treatment than they are currently receiving and I feel as though every little bit helps.
