Susan Duffy is a leader, educator and manager. In her capacity as the Director of the GWU Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Initiative, Susan heads a talented team of GWU faculty and staff to bring leading edge entrepreneurship education to students across the campus. This innovative women’s entrepreneurial leadership pedagogy combines core entrepreneurship courses with opportunities for students to incubate leadership skills, develop professional resource networks, understand and evaluate technology, and create personal entrepreneurial leadership strategies.
In addition to teaching entrepreneurship courses, Susan serves each semester as a faculty advisor for independent study students. In 2002, she received the GWU School of Business and Public Management’s Undergraduate Teaching Award. Susan has presented her work at numerous conferences and has published research articles on the State of Entrepreneurship Education in the United States and Expanding the Field of Family Business Research.
In July of 2003, Susan became the Executive Administrator of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB.) The ICSB is a global network of over 2000 academics, policy makers and professional services providers who work to advance entrepreneurship worldwide. Members from over 70 countries exchange best-practices, collaborate on small and medium enterprise research and offer practical support to a diverse range of entrepreneurial ventures.
Before coming to The George Washington University in 1998, Susan was a family business owner in the commercial construction industry and was the owner/operator of a Chinese Fast Food Delivery restaurant. She has held management positions in health care and worked as an organizational consultant in private and public work systems. Susan has a Master’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition Science from the Pennsylvania State University. Currently Susan is pursuing a doctoral degree in Management and Organization at The George Washington University School of Business and Public Management.
