HP50g Calculator Tips and Hints

HP50 missed keystrokes

The factory default settings for key hysteresis is so long that if entering numbers quickly, keystrokes may be missed.

The fix is simple--just type

500→KEYTIME
or
500->KEYTIME
(in case the first right arrow didn't come through on your web browser) where the right arrow is the one entered by pressing Right Shift + zero. Be sure to delete the space the calculator puts in to the right and left of that arrow. Viola! You can now type as fast as humanly possible, while still being protected from key 'jitter' entering doubled keystrokes.

HP50 Connection to PC problems

The Connection Manager software Conn4x is on HP's website http://www.hp.com/calculators
You must run the Setup program as Administrator if running Windows Vista. (It is not necessary to run Conn4x as Administrator once it's installed).

Note you must see a "USB Calculator" option as shown below or "Auto" will not work!

You must allow Windows to attempt to find the driver when you plug it into the USB port, which it probably will not find. Use the option of the Windows auto-driver-installer to browse to the:

c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard/Conn4x/USBDriver

and in a minute or so it will be installed. Then, reopen Conn4x and you will see a USB Calculator option.

Press the Orange Right Shift on the HP50, then the silver right arrow key (and hit Enter if you're in Algebraic mode). You should see:

Xmodem Server
Waiting for command

Click the little connect icon on the Conn4x to connect, and just drag and drop files like in Windows Explorer.
