My research focuses on comparative and international political economy. I have a particular interest in business-government relations, with an empirical focus on the energy and environmental sectors. I am also interested in theories of institutional change.
My book manuscript examines the liberalization of oil markets in the advanced industrialized states. The summary of the manuscript can be downloaded from my research page. I have also published on public investment in green technologies, regionalism and climate change the politics of Japanese nuclear energy, resource nationalism in the Asia-Pacific, and Japanese domestic politics.
Prior to joining faculty at GWU I was research fellow in the Consortium for Energy Policy Research at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. My research has been supported by the Smith Richardson Foundation, MIT Laboratory for Energy and Environment, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Sigur Center for Asian Studies, and the GWU Center for International Business. I have been a visiting fellow at Université Paris Dauphine, Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), and the Japan Institute for Energy Economics (IEEJ).
