Editing Paper One

A. Thesis Development - Part I

  • 1. Circle the thesis.
  • 2. Underline subsequent developing statements.
  • 3. Put an asterisk next to all supporting material. This includes both direct quotations and further analysis of those quotations.
  • 4. Circle the conclusion.

    B. Thesis Development - Part II Construct an outline of the paper you've just read. (Do this on the back of the paper.) Check for flow. Does one argument arise naturally and convincingly from the one preceding it? Are all points supported?

    C. Finally, in a short paragraph, comment on the introduction/thesis. Is it too broad or too narrow? Does it lend itself to further development? If it does not, suggest ways that it might be reworked to be more effective.

If time permits, outline your own paper on the back of the copy you are submitting to me.
