Grand Seal of Calais

This is the first Grand Seal of the city of Calais (c. 1228). The seal depicts a bishop riding in a boat with his hand raised in making a blessing. The inscription reads "s[igillum] totius ville de calais" (seal of the entire city of Calais). This seal is catalogued as A1035 bis in the Archives Nationales (Paris).
