In this manuscript of "Confessio Amantis" (Gower's major English work), the author/poet is portrayed in an elegant illustration (on the left, kneeling). This image is from Egerton Manuscript 1991, fol. 7v (British Library); the manuscript was written in the early fifteenth century.
