What a long strange trip it’s been. This evening, around 9:30 whilst dinnering with an associate of mine several blocks from my dormitory, the Schenley, my companion and I noticed an unusual number of fire trucks converging on campus. Of course we joked that they were probably headed to Schenley, the hundred year old deathtrap we both call home. Moments later, my phone rang and I was informed by another homie that our building was, in fact, on fire. Venturing back towards campus we were greeted by the scene above. The fire was apparently pretty serious, with a second floor air-conditioning unit setting fire to the second floor room, which was completely engulfed in flames.
More information about the fire can be found here.
Around 12:10 we were allowed back into our rooms. Aside from a mild smokey stench in our hallway, my room on the 6th floor was completely unharmed. At approximately 1:30 am, the fire alarm sounded again and our building was evacuated for the second time this evening. The fire alarm, it seems, was broken. After another forty minutes, we were finally let back in. The alarm was silent for almost four hours until it sounded again at five minutes to five.
