Confidence

By John M. Artz

Introduction

Confidence is the third volume in the Thaddeus Wentworth mysteries. Unlike the first two volumes which were written from a first person perspective, this volume is written from an omniscient perspective with the main characters from previous stories coming in as secondary characters. It is essentially a psychological study of a con man and explores the question of free will. That is, to what extent are our decisions made by who we are rather than through conscious deliberation. If our choices are made by who we are, can we feel compassion for a nasty, cold, selfish person due to the fact that they cannot help the way they are?

I hope you enjoy the story.
