ENTERING THE GREAT LAND:
“COMING INTO THE COUNTRY”
ANCHORAGE TO ANIOK,
AND POINTS BEYOND BY BUSH PILOT
INTO THE YUKON DELTA
September 3, 2003
And we are
on our way into the interior of the Great
Land. We will be in the Yukon Delta after we arrive
in Aniok by the last commercial flight that will take us from the last of our
check-in baggage to the sorting out of our camp gear into the kind we will need
in our base camp and the spike camps to which we may be moving to pursue the
“fair chase” spot and stalk big game we are after.
I am on the
Continental flight across the North American continent in a seven hour flight
which began an hour late from the foul weather that has been plaguing the East
Coast fir the summer. I may have to go
to Alaska to warm up! I am only half way into the flight and the
second movie has run already to a fluffy completion. The first one was “Dinner at Eight” and the
second was a chick flick called “How to Lose a Man in Ten Days.” I have used up the life of the laptop battery
and still have a half a long flight to go.
But, I am heading into the Wilds of the Alaskan Yukon Delta and that is
a different kind of urgency than just being trapped in India!
