MAR-A-13
NOW, THIS SHOULD ADD A BIT OF INCENTIVE TO THE RUNNING!
FOR AN ENDURANCE EVENT LESS THAN A MONTH FROM TODAY,
I HAVE “JUMPED INTO THE BREACH,”
AND SIGNED UP FOR THE MCRRC TEAM TO RUN THE LEGENDARY
“BRRFM”
THE BULL RUN RUN FIFTY MILER!
March 13, 2003This should be fun! I have not run during the icy and snow clogged trails period of unusual winter in Derwood: how do I get a jump start? Well, tomorrow I pick up the packet for the St. Paddy’s Day 10K with Joe, traditionally our start of the racing season for the new year. Only one week later is the second running of the DC marathon, for a distance I was quite sure I could not finish if it were run today, A short time later is the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler for which I am on an MCRRC team also, and Joe may possibly run this race with me as well, along with Charlie, Cindy Clark and Imme Dyson and Virginia! Now just what would I do for the next weekend run—especially since I am traveling all of the week (see Mar-A-12) beginning April 13 to Florida, Long Island, Ohio and back to Boston to run the 107th running of The Boston?
Well, how about this little “interval run” for an add-on endurance event!
What an inspiring thought!
I have done a few "pick up" marathons and two of my six Ultras were "drop in"--and this would be an untrained attempt--between the second DC marathon and the 107th Boston, but--why not? I see my friends Mike Broderick and Ed Schultze in the entrants, and if I could be the boat anchor on such a team, I will try to do a couple of quick changes to a schedule that has me out of town for April 12, and the second is to join as a "Yanqui" in the entries, and then try to shuffle in to join you!
(Take any other volunteer who may be faster first! Call Mike Bur to see if he is ready, if he wants to do only half of a "real" race!)

We are trying to field an MCRRC team for the Bull
Run 50 miler
but we are short one runner. We need a total
of 5 team members
but one of our runners has had to drop out due to
an injury.
If you would like to join the MCRRC team please let
me know.
Speed is not a requirement, just guts. Joining
the team does
not cost you anything if you are already registered
for the
race. If you join 3 MCRRC teams this year you
will earn a
free Team MCRRC singlet or shorts.
BTW, registration for Bull Run has reopened and according
to the web site there are still a handful of slots
available.
If anyone out there was wanting to run a spring Ultra
you may
be able to sign up.

The Bull Run Run
50 Miler
Eleventh Battle
April 12, 2003
The Bull Run Run is the VHTRC's premier event. The club was formed to sponsor this race. The Bull Run Run is a tough, beautiful run with less than 200 yards of asphalt. The run takes place on the Bull Run Trail in Northern Virginia. Entry Is Open Again: The service academies did not show and several people withdrew, so there is space left in the 2003 BRR field. If you want to enter the Bull Run Run, go to: Bull Run Run Entry. Entry will close on March 20 or when 350 people are entered, whichever is sooner. Have a Question? Before you e-mail or call the RD, please consult the new Frequently Asked Questions. BRR Information and Resources2003 Event
