It looks like I might be heading back to the Philippines for a surgical project in January‑‑possibly 11‑‑25. If that were the case, I might be able to work out a trip to Malawi in late January and/or early February. In any case, I would have to be returned by Feb 20 to be going for the next two weeks to Central America.
I just wrote a response to a letter from Mister Tembo, and sent him 100 new lap pads! I have gathered a large quantity of surgical expendables.
I know I will have at least John Sutter, and a couple of other "wannabes".
I have talked with my former resident and current colleague Craig Schaefer who is a superb community surgeon in Cambridge MD and his partner, Bill Bair MD about getting a regular supply line of material and manpower flowing in an exchange, and I am working on him to join us for a period in Embangweni.
We are making plans for a slide show and Grand Rounds at Cambridge MD with a report from the last himalayan mission in which Bill's cousin Keith went with me to the Spiti Valley last week (photos being sent with subsequent email) and I may show a few pictures and your video about the "next" mission to Malawi. I will let you know when such dates are worked out, and maybe I can introduce you to Craig and Carol who may be with me for starters or else we can serially cover a period of tiem at Embagweni.
Let me know your plans and suggestions, and we might integrate a few. It may require a bit of meeting time and Photo Show at the beach or in other venues of your choosing!
Cheers!
