Subject: Future physician
Reading about Aaron Heffner being so inspired by Dr. Harries reminds me of how inspired I get when I talk to my friend, Dr. Glenn Geelhoed. Glenn is a professor of surgery and international medical education at GWU who performs surgery in the most exotic locations, and he's got the most incredible stories and pictures. He is probably the only doctor I know that's not about money or insurance reimbursements; he's a humanitarian who helps those in the most dire need, hiking through the Himalayas to set up clinic, or performing surgery by Jeep headlights in the jungles of Africa. He writes about his adventures in central Africa in his book, Out of Assa: Heart of the Congo, that I thought Mr. Heffner might find interesting. Mr. Heffner might also learn more from Glenn's website http://home.gwu.edu/~gwg. It's nice to see such enthusiasm about medicine in a young man; I hope he keeps it. Please pass this information on to Mr. Heffner in case he's interested. Glenn has inspired so many students, maybe he can reach one more future doctor!
