For those who don't know the intrepid Dr. Geelhoed who can be found doing
surgery on occasion at GWU, if not flying around the world doing marathons
or working with Doctors without Borders in remote Third World countries, let
me introduce him. I saw him at least once running slower with a blind
runner in tow down the Ken-Gar trail this winter. Hopefully, Glenn will
shame the rest of us into performing such acts of complete kindness on a
more routine basis since he is not even in town most of the time, and find
the kind of humility that he has found to take care of others who need our
help instead of thinking about ourselves and our own running vanity
constantly.
We are all lucky that we have the complete use of our bodies to perform such
an activity as running---others don't. Think about it.
Carol
You are too kind--and the generosity may be mis-directed depending on who is "tow-er" and who is "tow-ee!"
Maybe such mellow moments only come after a special event such as a week when I have "doubled up" on grandsons!
I used to deny the nobility of my Guide Runner status--it is one of my most enjoyable running ambitions--but I no longer do: I think it is very noble of Joe to pull me up the hills that, unseen, do not intimidate him!
And, now, after one long PtP pre-dawn run together on Friday, I am off to Ladakh in the Himalayas!
