Notes on using these references:
|
* Often online databases will use one of many alternate spellings for greek or latin words. use the "or" function to help solve this issue "vergil or virgil". |
* Many journals contract with online digital archives (like JSTOR or ProQuest) to post issues published prior to the last few years (for example, JSTOR only holds issues of the American Journal of Archaeology that were published from its inception in 1897 to six years prior to the current calendar year, so currently JSTOR has the AJA from 1897-2003). In many cases, the most recent issues are only available in hard copy on the 3rd floor of Gelman. |
*Reference works, on the other hand, are updated online much more frequently, and should therefore be consulted before hard copies. For example, the hard copy of the Oxford Classical Dictionary owned by Gelman is from 1996, while the most recent update of the online edition dates to 2009. |
*Be wary of clunky and outdated translations. Translations of primary sources should be used as a guideline, not as a replacement for personal translations. |

Fully digitized Greek and Latin texts, which allow users to translate texts word by word.
