Lisa Delpy has been a professor of Sport and Event Management at the George Washington University for five years. In this time Dr. Delpy has established a strong academic program at both the undergraduate and graduate level and serves as the Sport Management program director.
Dr. Delpy is also the faculty advisor for the Forum for Sport and Event Management and Marketing (Forum) and coordinator of student internships and cooperative education experiences. The Forum serves to define, develop, and expand the profession of sport and event management through scholarly research and educational activities such as symposiums and conferences. Currently Dr. Delpy is planning a conference on Sport Tourism to be held Spring 1997.
In addition to speaking at various conferences, writing professional articles, consulting with corporate sponsors and sport commissions Dr. Delpy, along with Stedman Graham and Joe Jeff Goldblatt, authored "The Ultimate Guide to Sport Event Management and Marketing" published by Irwin Professional Publishing, Chicago, IL: 1995. Dr. Delpy also serves on the advisor board of the Women Sport Foundation (WSF) and manages their AOL sport marketing home page.
Prior to arriving at The George Washington University, Dr. Delpy traveled to 56 countries around the world studying the development and organization of the Olympic Movement. Capitalizing on her international interest and contacts, she has organized and lead student study tours to the 1992 Summer Olympic Games, the 1993 World University Games, the 1994 Winter Olympic Games, the 1994 Goodwill Games, and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. While attending these events, Dr. Delpy arranges for meetings with administrators, sponsors, athletes, and volunteers of the Games as well as tours of the venues and auxiliary facilities.
Born and raised in California, Dr. Delpy received her undergraduate degree in Physical Education/Exercise Physiology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; a MS in Sport Management from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA; and a Ph.D. in Sport Administration from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
