De Novo Protein Design

Designing proteins with new structural and functional properties at will is the ultimate goal of protein engineering. We aim to develop a comprehensive protein design platform from selecting suitable folds for design based on their structure designability to using accurate and efficient algorithms in both protein interaction modeling and sequence otimization.

Bionetwork Modeling

Since it is complex network of interactions between molecules such as proteins in the average living cell that ultimately leads to the biocomplexity that we observe, we also initiated a research program to develop theoretical techniques and computational tools for systems biology with initial focus on three biological networks associated with cellular oxygen sensing, the cell cycle, and biosynthesis of amino acids. The overall goal is to analyze these seemingly unrelated systems to uncover generic mechanisms governing biological network regulation.
