Medical Humanities Book Club

The Medical Humanities Book Club is an informal gathering of GWU School of Medicine students, faculty, and staff to discuss books (usually novels) of interest to those in the healthcare profession.  The group meets irregularly, approximately five times per year, and is open to all students, faculty, and staff.  Books for a subsequent session are chosen by those in attendance at the current session, and email notices of upcoming sessions are sent to all.

In addition to providing a literary discussion forum, the Club serves as an opportunity for the students, faculty, and staff to interact together in an enjoyable learning session, led by Professor Raphael.

Examples of recent books discussed include:

2006-7
Ian McEwan, Saturday
Jose Saramago, Blindness
Joan Didion, Year of Magical Thinking
Melinda Haynes, Mother of Pearl

2007-8
Ian McEwan, On Chesil Beach
Jeffrey Eugenides, Middlesex
Allegra Goodman, Intuition
Pat Barker, Regeneration
Richard Russo, The Bridge of Sighs

2008-9
