Interest Header

I conduct research on public culture, language, and media in Latin America and North America. My current project concerns the way that country music, rodeo, as well as rurally themed soap operas, cooking, and fashion, are bound up with the politics of memory in post-dictatorial Brazil.

Other interests include the ethnography of performance, categories of space and time, and the musicality of politics and culture.

My next ethnographic project investigates intellectual property and the poetics of consumption in the informal economy of illegally copied CDs in urban São Paulo.
