A Knotty Bucket List

We have all spent most of our professional lives thinking about knots. They arise in myriads of contexts: in the study of 3 and 4-dimensional manifolds, in representation theory, in theoretical physics, in molecular biology, and so forth. In this talk I will present several knotty problems that relate to questions in 3 and 4-dimensional topology, that are perhaps not so well known, and for which there is no general consensus as to how they will be resolved. I have thought about these problems at one time or another, generally long ago, but now they are just sitting on the back burner. The 35th session of Knots in Washington seems like an opportune time to bring them (back) to your attention, and to promote them onto my own personal "knotty bucket list".
