Title: Some Surfaces and Their Cellular Symmetries

Abstract: Two-dimensional topological surfaces can be described as being built by attaching two-dimensional panels (ÒcellsÓ) to a one-dimensional skeleton (ÒgraphÓ). Viewed this way, one can ask which symmetries the surface enjoys that respect some cellular structure. This talk will cover all the basics of these ideas with a highly visual approach, then show how they give rise to really cool patterns in the plane.
