Overview/Comprehensive

I have had nearly every class that Eric H. Cline teaches, and he has been wonderful in each one. His lectures are interesting, well illustrated, and sometimes even amusing. I VERY highly recommend any course he is teaching.

Anth 188 (Archaeology of Israel and Neighboring Lands)

“This is the best professor on the entire GW Staff. He has knowledge, humor, and isn't afraid to let his students debate their issues. He is interesting and his knowledge of classics and archaeology is amazing. A must for any student.”

This class was extremely interesting and rewarding. Cline is a great professor, but because he is so knowledgeable in the subject, which I knew nothing about, it was very rewarding to do well--with that said, in order to do well, you really need to invest yourself in going to class and studying hard for the midterm and final. No surprises on the exams.

With both of the classes I've taken [with Cline], I went into them completely uninterested in the topic and came out wanting to make that field my major. His tests are very fair, but long. There was nothing on them I didn't expect His lectures are very clear and comprehensive. Although he does like to add personal anecdotes, I think they only add to the class.

Cline is an amazing professor, but don't come into the class thinking he is easy though, cause he's not. He expects a lot and teaches a lot of information which he expects you to remember.

Great elective. He's funny and interesting and got me excited about a subject I had never studied before. Reading and writing to do, but worthwhile.

This is my third class with Cline and he is simply an amazing professor. He is highly knowledgeable, passionate, entertaining, and if that isn't enough, he has two adorable children who sometimes come to class!

Hist 109/Clas 119 (History of Ancient Greece)

“Great arch[aeology] and history teacher, one of the best I've had here, actually manage to stay awake through slides.”

“One of the best ever here! Really knows his stuff (BBC & Disc[overy] Channel are huge fans). He's also really nice and fun. Plus you actually want to come to class.”

Hist 110/Clas 120 (History of Ancient Rome

The best professor I've had here. Highly recommended.

“My favorite GW professor. Funny, smart, challenging.  His class was so great and interesting, I actually didn’t miss a class all semester.”

Clas 105 (Seven Wonders of the Ancient World)

“He was one of the best professors I ever had at GW.”

“He is the best prof at GWU. His teaching tripled the size of the Archaeology majors in 3 semesters. WOW! :-)”

“Awesome professor, teaches a variety of classes including archaeology, Art History, classics, and history.”

Anth 003 (Intro to Archaeology)

“Awesome teacher. I'm a theatre major. His class was so interesting, I'm picking up an Arch Minor. One of the best Profs on campus. Well known in the business.  He wrote me a rec letter to a Pompeii dig site and I'm now going this summer. Fun to talk to as well. Stop by during his office hours. Make sure he knows your face.”

“This class is sort of easy.  The averages on the tests are high, but don't think you don't have to study for them! Most of the questions on the test come from the lectures...so be sure to go to class! He's funny and likes to add in bits of fun facts....I recommend it if you want to fulfill gcr's.”

“I absolutely loved this class! Cline adds in lots of "cocktail trivia" and is genuinely interested in the subject (which makes the class worth it even if you have only a passing interest in archaeology).”

“My favorite professor so far.  He's so funny and interesting to listen to.  The tests are pretty straight forward.  I highly recommend taking a Cline class...they fill one or 2 of the GCRs and are very entertaining to show up to.  The material isn't difficult...”

“Superb professor, lectures are extremely interesting and I've never missed a class. I'm taking another class with him next semester. His tests aren't that bad if you take decent notes and pay attention, as they only cover the relevant info from his lectures.”

“very nice, easy going, funny guy, exams are easy if you go to class and take notes, very interesting lectures and material for the most part.  :)”

“Wow! Cline is an amazing professor. He is witty as hell and always on top of it. Only class I have here that I enjoy going to lectures. You can't fail this course, he grades on exactly what he teaches in class. Plus, if your [sic] looking for an expert in the field of archaeology, you've found him. Great professor and great guy.”

“Love love love him! He's hilarious and very knowledgeable about his subject (written a few books, been on tons of digs!) He teaches in a way that gets you really interested in the subject and keeps you involved in the class. Definitely recommend, I'm taking him again!”

“He's great. Eric Cline is one of the greatest professors on campus. Great professor makes the class interesting and fun.”

Most certainly one of my favorite teachers on campus -- I can't wait to take another class from him. His lectures are interesting and amusing and even with the most boring topics he manages to add in something that will keep you awake.

“Amazing prof!  He really tries to get to know you, which is great...he knew my name by the second class! His courses fill up really quick...and most people actually go to class!  Yes, he's that good.”

“Is a little tough on the tests, but is very fair and the lectures are fairly interesting. I really enjoyed his class.”

“Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Really, what more is there to say?”

“Amazing professor. I would recommend him anytime.”

“Very nice, fun, easy to talk to. Gives very clear lectures and is very helpful at getting you into extracurricular activities.”

“Funny, very visual (uses slides, images), very helpful, super nice.”

“So easy and the nicest guy ever. Very knowledgeable and clearly likes what he does. Light reading, clear lectures, and an open note final.”
